Microsatellites or Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs) are tandem-repeated sequence motifs of 1 to 6 base pairs found in abundance in the genomes of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The presence of microsatellites in the coding regions and in the regulatory regions of the genome influences gene expression and transcriptional activity. They play a significant role in genome evolution. However, till date, a complete inventory of the simple sequence repeats is not available as a single resource. We have attempted to create such a database, taking 501 non-overlapping repeat types. These consist of all theoretically possible monomer to hexanucleotide repeat types.

MRD consists of 5 tables which provide summary and detailed views of microsatellites, the genomic regions they belong to and their associations with genes and STS markers. More..
