Mulberry Germplasm

A large mulberry germplasm containing 450 accessions belonging to 14 different species from India and abroad is being maintained at Central Seri culture Research and Training Institute, Mysore. The detail genetic chracterisation of the huge germplasm available for Mulberry improvement is the foremost need, not only for its proper management but also for its efficient utilisation in developing elite genotypes.

Our approach

The DNA markers generated by RAPD, AFLP, ISSR and microsatellite PCR based technologies offer great promise in precise characterisation of germplasm.

Our Objectives

The present project is essentially an effort in this direction with the specific intend of molecular characterization of the mulberry germplasm maintained at CSR&TI and generating basic materials (molecular markers / mapping populations) as a prelude to molecular (DNA) markers based mulberry breeding programme.
