Reference Panels for identification and individualization of Species and Varieties

DNA typing of Mulberry genome was undertaken using multiple DNA marker techniques like RAPD, Flourescence-AFLP and Flourescence-microsatellites (SSRs) for their genetic characterization and also to create genotype-specific diagnostic patterns. The DNA profiles, thus obtained, were analyzed to develop Reference DNA Polymorphism data panels that can be used readily to generate "Molecular ID's" unique to specific Mulberry genotypes. Efforts were made to identify sets of microsatellite markers (which provide more robust easily revisitable signatures compared to RAPDs/AFLPs etc.) and that were relatively more polymorphic for easy individualization of Species and Varieties. Such reference polymorphism panels are expected to be of immense use for genotype registration, IPR protection and for other genetic studies.
