BSL3
The BSL2/3 laboratory
is a core facility of CCMB, and functions as a safe
working environment for high-risk and high-security
microbial pathogens, where properly trained users handle
various pathogenic microbes under safe conditions,
protecting the user, environment, and the community from
any risk.
It has
been built for handling the microorganisms classified
under BSL-2 and BSL-3 category. The facility is built to
cater the research needs of the research groups working
in the field of virology, bacteriology and parasitology.
Each level of containment has specific microbiological
practices, safety equipment and facility safeguards for
the corresponding level of risk associated with handling
of a particular agent. Experimental protocols are
reviewed and approved by Institutional Biosafety
committee to insure maximum safety of all planned
experiments. The Biosafety Level 3 laboratory is kept at
negative air pressure and has special engineering and
design features to prevent microorganisms from being
disseminated into the environment.
