Microscope CCMB has established country’s first 200KV transmission electron microscope with cryo-accessories in Oct 2006. The transmission electron microscope can be used for observation of biological macromolecules in frozen conditions. This enables us to get a detailed 3D view of the samples at a very high resolution after processing of images. The samples are snap frozen by plunging into liquid ethane and imaged in frozen state in glass like ice. Particles as small as viruses (25nm) etc can be seen in this system that is capable of magnifying up to 6.5 lakh times. |
