Cellular homeostasis requires coordinated functioning, and regulation of multiple cellular processes. Deregulation often causes severe cell defects or death. Interestingly, cells have evolved various mechanisms to accomplish this task. Such regulations include modulating gene expression, protein activity, protein stability, etc. By using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system, we are interested in understanding the regulatory mechanisms and their principles in eukaryotes. Our particular interest is to study the role of selective protein degradation, translational control of gene expression, in regulating polyamine homeostasis in the cell.
