Research Interests

In higher organisms, the process of transcription takes place in the chromatin milieu. The presence of nucleosomes, the basic repeat units of the chromatin may impose difficulties in region-specific and localized recognition and uncoiling of the structure that may be essential for the various DNA-related transactions in nuclear processes like transcription. Histone codes of the genes generated by the histone modifications along with other chromatin remodeling mechanisms have been proposed to be the major players in gene regulation mechanisms. We use molecular approaches for studying the relationship of chromatin and transcription with emphasis on: 1. Mechanisms regulating assembly of eukaryotic transcription complexes. 2. Epigenetics of transcription 2.1. Organization of the chromatin structure around the genes transcribed by RNA polymerase III 2.2 Epigenetic Mechanisms of regulation of transcription from the chromatin. 3. Chromatin dynamics and Mechanisms of Nucleosome positioning.
