Research Interests:

My team mostly uses genetic techniques to address questions on population structure, gene flow and landscape genetics of tiger and other endangered mammals in India. We are interested in understanding how meta-populations of wide-ranging and elusive species like tiger, function at macro-ecological scales i.e. at large spatial and temporal scales, and how this is linked to local population dynamics of its prey species and co-predators. Moreover landscape level and corridor functionality studies on mega-carnivores help us understand and mitigate disastrous encounters with humans. We also work on ex-situ conservation of endangered mammals wherein it is crucial to pay attention to animal welfare, health, species-typical behaviour, reproductive success rates and adaptation to rapidly changing environments. We are interested in understanding physiological changes in captivity and their effects when animals are released into the wild.
